Protective Powers: Fullerene C60 and Virgin Olive Oil Shield Against Cadmium-Induced Genotoxicity in Rats

Introduction: Cadmium, a prevalent environmental pollutant, takes various forms such as oxide, chloride, and sulphide, posing significant threats. In this study, we explore the genotoxic impact of fullerene nanoparticles C60 (C60) and virgin olive oil (VOO) on cadmium chloride (CdCl2)-induced genotoxicity in rats.

Study Findings: Surprisingly, both C60 and VOO demonstrated a substantial reduction in genotoxic effects induced by CdCl2, particularly in livers, kidneys, and bone marrow. Chromosomal alterations caused by CdCl2 were reversed by the protective effects of C60 and VOO. Molecular and cytogenetic studies collectively indicate the anti-genotoxic properties of C60 and VOO against CdCl2-induced genotoxicity in rats.
